"One of the best games I have ever played!" 2009-12-11
By Naturelover (Minneapolis, MN USA)
I really dont understand all the negativity here against this game. I have played a few other real-time-strategy games and this by far beats all of them hands down with AI, graphics and just the sheer depth of the game itself. I like the amount of planning and strategizing you can do in this game and how any decision you make can have such long lasting consequences down the road.

I've been playing this since June and aside from some very few crashes here and there, this game has been absolutely amazing. ITS A GREAT GAME!!!

"Not so bad, to be Total war series is dissapointed." 2009-12-08
By X. Hung (Florida, USA)
Im from Venezuela, and i nearly sell my liver to buy this game, do u think this game is expensive for u? think about it, to me cost 6 times more than you + shipping to Venezuela, i found this game dissapointed, but not for STEAM wich i think is very confy for people like me who dont want spend time looking for Updates, the more you have a good internet conection (thing wich USA should be so easy not like us)you wont have problems. To me the main problem is the IA of the game, the game is really heavy, the soldiers move as stupids clones, for example, a complete batalion must wait a laggin behind soldier to shut the enemy, when you say them STOP, they stop yes, but after they continue advancing to make the shut, NO MEN!! i was telling you STOP in order you shut on that exactly position stupids monkeys! So Shuting become rally useless and you must take the sword and pike again, just like Medieval Total war were. Siege is the other imposible thing to play, no matter if you are defending or attacking is also Buggy lagly imposible. Graphics are cute, but this litle cute need a Great Machine, mine is GTX 260 and nearly it can handle it on ULTRA, the Sea battle do are good more than on field, So i recommend you this game, just if you are a Extremly TW fan and you can get it for a low price, other way its better dont buy it in order dont be angred and dissapointed.

 "5 STARS!" 2009-12-07
By N. Gompers
I bought this game the day it came out and have loved it ever since, Its the biggest improvement in the Total War series yet and I have just passed 250 hrs played, yes, it does require a nice computer but it is definitely worth the investment as all games these days do, so I dont see why people are crying about this fact... You need a nice computer because the graphics are AMAZING, (I run on all ultra with everything turned on w/24") yes, the battles take 30sec to load - get over it. I would much rather have better graphics than a little faster load times. I am just so confused at why a great game like this is rated so low?? all of the major game rating websites have this near 9/10 so dont listen to these grouches. I tried to play rome total war 2 the other day and found myself sighing at the poor gameplay and graphics comparatively with ETW(I used to think it was great until I played ETW) I only played one battle and it was less than I remeber it being. - how did I ever play that? BUY THIS NOW WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Then again - Napoleon Total war comes out in febuary so you may just want to hold off until then and get that, I know I will.

 "What A Letdown!!!!" 2009-12-06
By KG (Oklahoma)
I have been a loyal follower of the total war series and was absolutely stoked when I saw the news that a Total War game set in the 1800s was going to be released. But upon playing I just couldn't stomach the flaws that this Disappointment provided. I'll try to keep this short. As in all the Total War games Diplomacy is pretty much useless - treaties go in one ear and out the other so to speak, being allianced with another nation provides no comfort whatsoever seeing as how out of nowhere they will send some small army to wreak havoc on a local settlement or blockade a port for no apparent reason. Why? Good question. The Pirates in this game are a nightmare to deal with. The battles are a godawful experience - artillery (one of the most important aspects of 1800s warfare) prove to be useless. Directing your men anywhere but in a straight line is like dealing with a drunk passerby, and the siege battles OHHHH the siege battles are a product straight out of hell. Although the navel battles are beautiful and fun. In other words, save your money or lower your expectations.

"Wolfenstein Disappoints In Singel Player Mode..." 2009-12-14
By Carl Johnson
I'm an old Wolfenstein-Doom-Quake fan from way back, but this one disappoints in SP mode. I haven't played much of the game yet primarily because of the new automatic save feature. When I'm ready to get up and eat dinner, watch a TV program, or go to bed, I want to save the game right there at that point in time, not some auto-save five minutes ago. Heck, I've already forgotten where I found the gold, what clipboard had the secret notes, not to mention I've got to fight my way back to my "dinner bell" location next time I sit down at the game. And it even seems that when the game says it has auto-saved, a restart doesn't take you back to the exact location of the "announced" auto-save. I've gotten killed a couple of times (missed those incoming grenades) and wound up further back in the game than what I thought was the last auto-save. I haven't figured that one out completely yet. To me, not being able to save a game at a point of my choice is such an annoyance that I don't know why I gave this game a 3-star...just being generous I guess. Another setback (in my opinion) is the removal of health status and health replenishment packets. Now, to restore health, crouching down seems to be the way to go...no very challenging to say the least. And why do I have to insert the CD everytime I play the game? I thought that's what the key code was for...to eliminate the need for the CD during the game startup. One note...when I installed the game from the CD, it never asked me for the key code, not even to this day. Every time I start the game it tells me to insert the CD. There are other quirks in this game that definitely separate it from the true Wolfenstein-Doom-Quake genre. What baffles me is why they (Activision, ID, Raven) did it. Was it in response to consumer feedback or just a laziness on the part of the developers/code writers? Whatever the reason, it has caused this long time fan to redirect my gaming alligence elsewhere...don't think I'll be buying the Wolfenstein-Doom-Quake sequels. P.S. - The graphics so far are good and playing with a Rumblepad 2 is an excellent choice for PCs. A resolution of 1920x1080 is a perfect fit for a 24 inch monitor.

 "Something doesn't jibe right" 2009-12-10
By Scott Peterson (Center of the U.S.)
"Return to Castle Wolfenstein" was one of my favorite games from a few years ago, and I was a little surprised to see a new version of the game in the store, which should have been my first clue. It's not a bad game, and it's been so long since I played RTCW the story feels new, but it just didn't connect with me.

RTCW started out as a World War Two shooter, and then gradually progressed into the Sci-Fi and supernatural elements. The story was long and challenging, and being a traditional episodic game you felt like you were on a journey to the end.

Wolfenstein plunges right into the supernatural and is one of those games which centers around a town, with optional missions you travel to. You always have to pass back through town to be assigned missions and for supplies, and the result is finding your way back to the same place over and over for ammo, and having to kill the same guards and monsters. The town is also much smaller than normal and so it gets old quick.

I've never cared for these "pick your missions" games as they always break down into things that are basically filler and episodes you have to complete to advance. In other words you can't really do what you want, instead you're a step further removed from the plot and now have to do the right things in the right order to open the next usable mission. It never fails something gets out of sequence and you're trying to figure out what you missed, whether it's a minor part or a big chunk of the plot. (Stalker was by far the worst on that).

The game play could be challenging, but too many elements seemed derived from other famous shooters. The energy shields looked like they came out of Half Life 2, the defend your position episode was too much like a Call of Duty game, the shield/walking through walls reminded me of Prey, the customize your weapons reminded me of.....well, you get the idea.

Put your brain in park and crank the difficulty up and it'll be several hours of action with a few fun parts, but that's about it.

By J. Akins (Duncanville,TX USA)
I played this game on the highest difficulty and because of the automatic health regeneration coupled with amunition galore there was really no challenge at all.Just step out in the open and BLAST AWAY.When the screen turns red step out of the line of fire and about 3 seconds later you are as good as new.Repeat untill all the Germans are dead then go collect the amunition. The suspence of a game is when you are near death with no health kit in sight and low on amo. That is when stealth is the way to go and finding places to hide untill you can boost your health. This game looks like it was made for beginners with nothing to Interest a seasond gamer.I can not see why any game would Include automatic health regeneration.IT KILLS THE GAME.

"A great game but with a few problems" 2009-12-03
By C. Poe
Once I found out that a new Wolfenstein was going to be released I was very anxious. For those of you that enjoy first-person shooters with a touch of RPG style weapon modifications you'll most likely enjoy this game.

Like most first-person shooters you can carry an unnatural amount of weapons and ammunition on you at any time, which I'm okay with. Like with Wolfenstein games of the past you'll get the standard realistic WWII weapons (German ones only) as well as the not so realistic sci-fi weapons (Tesla gun, particle weapons, among others). And by the way disintegrating Nazis with the particle weapon is a lot of fun. Throughout the game you have the option to add some very handy upgrades to your weapon using gold you've collected throughout the levels at the Black Market stores.

I'll start with the good things. The music is first class, at times you get the feeling you're listening to the soundtrack for Indiana Jones. The sound effects are well done as well, weapon sounds have a very satisfying punch to them. The graphics and textures are top notch, whether walking through a street in a town in Germany or through a cavern underground the textures are colorful and the models are extremely detailed from guns to characters. The story itself is engaging and entertaining and the cut scenes only make the story better. Load times on this game are super short, the main menu loads in less than 5 seconds and level loads are a maximum of 10 seconds. Overall there are more good things than there are bad and if you are looking for a good game that will keep you occupied for several hours and is definitely worth the money.

Now for the bad, keep in mind these things don't outweigh the numerous good things, these are just some things that annoy me a great deal and in some cases make me feel that the developers either gave up on some things or just didn't care. For starters, the absolute worst of them is no anti-aliasing, I'm not sure if this was developed first for XBOX and then ported to PC or not but I don't care, computer screens these days have extremely high resolutions and often times the users of computers aren't sitting much further away than a few feet and nothing is more annoying and destructive to the realism of a PC game than jagged edges on the edge of every object. Every once in a great while a great game is released that is marred by the absence of anti-aliasing, and lately I've been hearing the excuse that the type of rendering that the game uses doesn't allow for anti-aliasing which I think sounds like giving up. Enough on that. A strange bug is that I seem to be having problems getting the key binding for a grenade throw to stick to what I told it, not sure what thats all about but a patch may take care of that. The last thing is, if you plan on running this game at a high resolution with the quality settings higher up, make sure you have a really good video card, my year and a half old card just couldn't handle it (this isn't really a problem with the game, just something to keep in mind) so I had to crank the resolution down to make it play with a good framerate.

Get this game if you want to be entertained and have a machine that can handle it and don't mind the lack of anti-aliasing than you're in for a good time.

I bought this on a whim to get over $25 for free shipping on another order. My wife and I both play and enjoy it as does my 6 year old. My 9 year old daughter tried chuzzle when we bought our new computer. She was hooked after 2 games. Somewhat like tetris, chuzzle is a game of skill using eye hand coordination. Speed chuzzle is my favorite. We went to Amazon.com for price comparison and found a great deal. We received our game in under a week and have had hours of fun since.

I was so excited to get Chuzzle. I had played it online and thought it very fun. While it is a lot of fun, I can't get the disc to download to my laptop. I've downloaded other games with no difficulty.

As soon as this challenge is taken care of, I'm sure I'll have many fun hours playing Chuzzle.

 "Never stops evolving." 2009-11-06
By Thomas Schaeper
The differences between EverQuest II in 2009 and EverQuest II in 2004 are astronomical. As the game moves towards its five year anniversary, it continues to change for the better. One of the biggest changes will happen within the next few months: The upgrade to Shader Model 3.0. The game was created in SM1.0, because it was started in 1999, around the release of Rise of Kunark.

Some Key Features to EverQuest II:

*Hands-on Crafting system. Counter mistakes before your item is too damaged to be created.

*Decorate the interior of your own house. With the introduction of the ability to save layouts, third party tools are being made to create an even more unique home. Z-axis rotation anyone?

*A racial revamp recently took place in order to add racial balance.

*An old time favorite will be introduced in February: Halas

*Alternate Advancement allows for a more customizable character.

*Achievements allow you to earn recognition for accomplishments.

*Over 400 zones

*Streaming client is in the works to reduce download time.

The current development team is highly committed to releasing new content and fixing bugs. EverQuest II will only get better. If you tried the game in the past or if you are considering playing, I highly recommend you pick it up. It is well worth the money. With 60 days free in this package, what is there to lose?

 "A fantastic game that's overlooked" 2009-11-02
By snowman (CA United States)
Where to start? So much depth, so many places to go, so many things to spend your time on. Had been searching for a new game to play with a number of friends who had grown tired of 4-5 years with the biggest game out there (we tried just about every big title that came out the last couple years).

All any of us could say, "why did we wait so long to try this game out?" It has evolved since launch and so much for the better. Alternative Advancement's(AA's) represent the talent trees for EQ2. They are earned as you level, you can even adjust the amount of adventure/combat experience that goes towards earning these points. Want to fight from your mount, being able to use all of your skills? It's here in EQ2. Crafting is abundant and more interactive than most games, while not being tedious and overly complicated. Do like to have alot of abilities to use as you fight your way through a vast world? Then you will find your task bars full of interesting abilities to use. Do you like to earn achievments? EQ2 has incorporated one and wrapped the old slayer titles into it.

The game still looks great and yes you will have to adjust settings to fit your system and how you want it to look. Characters are pretty impressive looking, personally I say check out the alternative models they have for most of the races, I like them better for many of the races. The landscape can look amazing and is very immersive, in my opinion it still looks better than alot of newer games on the market. They also will be releasing a new shader around the 1st of December that looks even more promising for the graphics.

To sum up, there's a great game here that offers more depth than other mmorpg's on the market right now. I guess the success of WOW really overshadowed what this game has to offer and it's a shame.

"Great game...Check your hardware first!" 2009-11-29
By A. Weld (Madison WI)
My son asked for Spore after playing it at a friend's house. We ordered it and the adventure began. Our one year old computer needed more memory, a graphics card and a new power supply to power the graphics card. The hardware upgrades came to about $200. Now he has a great gaming machine. We really enjoy playing the game. Just check out the hardware requirements first. We went with the BFG 9800 GT and a BFG GS 550 watt power supply. Both were effortless installations.

"DO NOT INSTALL! Permanent RootKit from SecuROM!" 2009-11-27
By MIT Grad
Hi,

Based on having the Spore game simply stop working a few months after installation and then trying to fix it, this MIT graduate can give you a few hints:

1. This installation leaves behind a rootkit that cannot be easily removed. To remove it you have to go into Windows "RegEdit" function. If you make an error while using regedit, you could end up having to re-install your operating system.

2. EA's online help info in this area is pretty useless.

3. Kids do like the game, but it is simply not worth your time or the risk to your PC. There are reasonably credible reports on the web indicating damage to the operating system in some machines from the rootkit.

4. My family will no longer purchase ANY PC games from EA, or any other vendor, with this form of Digital Rights Management (DRM). We suggest you do the same and let EA and the others know about your decision.

"Hard to load, but my 11 yo nephew liked it" 2009-11-25
By Potpie55 (Everett, WA. 98204)
Ok, so I have not played this game as I bought it for my nephew and this seems to be the target audience. My nephew has played this allot since I bought it for him. The concept seems fun as you walk a creature through evolutionary steps. He is always laughing and showing off his creations. If my rating was based strictly on how much fun he is having with it I would give it a 5 star.

However, since I bought it for him, I was the one that had to load it, and that was not fun. I am not a computer programmer, but I can usually load a new piece of software on a PC. This took my sister and I an hour to get it to load. We had to go to youtube to figure out how to load it. That is why I gave it a 3 star. So other than the loading issue, I got a good price on Amazon and it shipped in plenty of time for his birthday. So if you are buying this for a kid I would recommend it.

"Meh not worth it, save your cash." 2009-11-23
By Mercenary84
I remember hearing the hype about this game and even wanted to get it once it dropped down in price. Then Yahtzee, of Zero Punctuation fame, did a review of it. That pretty much dampered down any residual excitement. Dont get me wrong I still wanted to play it but wasnt sure that I wouldn't get buyer's remorse. The Cell stage wasnt actually too bad if you can get over the serious Computer cheating. Seriously? A creature surrounded with spikes?! How am I supposed to get that part that it is carrying? Keep in mind that you, the player, cant do this as you are limited to how many parts you can stick onto your creature. Actually I take that back a little, you can but your creature will have no eyes, mouth, or way of movement.

Then the creature stage. you staple on a few legs, doesnt matter what kind they do the same level of speed and then your creature roams onto land. Of course, in the promo vids you would think that this world would be thriving with roaming creatures for you to befriend or kill. Instead you have this strange world where all the creatures would just hang around their nests with "Epic" or "Rogue" versions of themselves in the world where if you dont immediately try to befriend them will try and kill you. And they will kill you. The Epic versions I speak of are 10-100x the size of the normal brethren. Also pathfinding in the game is a little screwy. Your creature, if you click on the minimap to make him go there, will take the shortest path there. Even if that path is through an impassable mountain. It will keep walking into it until you manually control him to get him around the mountain.

The Tribal stage is laughable you either kill everyone bye selecting your entire village, grabbing some weapons and just zerg rush the victim. Befriending everyone is a little harder but not my much your only change now is that you need to give them a gift, have your entire tribe playing at least 3 different instruments and time your button presses correctly. Presto civilization stage.

Now the Civilization stage wasnt too bad, you design your buildings and vehicles with your fliers and ships. However once you get a few resources coming in, you can A. Build a crap load of military vehicles and gank Victim no. 6746. B. Conquer a military city and start churning out trade vehicles to eventually simply BUY the other city. Or C. Simply convert the other city to your religion. However one caveat is that to get the economic and religious options you have to go with A. Twice. In other to actually get those options you have to conquer the city and hope that it is one of the two. Either that or you have to something other than carnivore. Which would have been nice if the game told you that. But this game for all of its hints and tutorials has a nasty habit of not telling you crap. "What are those little things in my minimap?" The game has no answer other than you can click on the minimap to go there.

Once you killed/bought/converted everyone you finally begin the last stage of the game, Space. Now this is where the game comes into its own finally, the controls are great and designing a space ship is intuitive and fun. The missions are also really straightforward and you can find everything just find.

Which is what I would say if the game was a great big pile of <$&(@&*&(%@!!#%> and fries. Your spaceship will either be a goofy little thing or it will no engines because it is IMPOSSIBLE to place those things on the back facing BACK not UP or DOWN I JUST WANT IT TO FACE BACKWARDS.

The Missions given to you will inevitably tell you to go to this star system A, planet B, and scan/kill/capture creature/plant/artifact C or give said C to D. D being some destination or something Again the nasty habit of this game pops up and doesnt TELL you where this system A is at. Or who D is. I was playing through the space stage and I got a mission saying that I was to pick up 3 ancient artifacts and go drop them to Janthon. Who or what Janthon was, was never explained to me. "Just pick them up and give them to Janthon" the game cried at me.

It was at this point that I rage-quit to the desktop and started up EVE online because EVE was easier to understand and play. And for all of you who know what EVE online is, that is how bad this game is.

AND ONE MORE THING: AUTOSAVE. I thought we perfected this by now, with the majority of users using windows and many of them being younger, who dont know that the pop up ad " YOU ARE INFECTED" is in fact a scam and spyware, this game inevitably will crash. This being a game where simulation is going on while you are doing stuff means your CPU time will get eaten up. So if memory leaks or Windows says FU IMMA CRASH NOW happens, at least your game will be saved sometime before you crashed right?

WRONG. This game has NO AUTOSAVE WHATSOEVER. EVEN THE SIMS HAD AUTOSAVE. You leave your house? SAVE, enter? SAVE!

This game? the only time it asks you to save is if you are quitting your current game. No autosave after stage change, event occurence or even periodically. So that means if the last the time you saved was during the Cell Stage and you went all the way to Space and Ragequit? You. Lose. Everything.

Not to mention the problems with this game and linking to EA. I just bought this game NEW from Best Buy and even though I managed to register it once with my EA account, every time I try to log in it says the install code is invalid and that I do not have correct spore.com privileges to link it. This is a game I PAID MONEY FOR. Why do I have to go through this crappy linking process to get access to the database of user created content?

At time of writing, EA has responded and said that it is linked to my account and basically said they dont know why its not working. Thank you EA tech support.

Tl;Dr. Spore was a game of high expectation that ultimately fell flat when held up to the sunlight. A box of fancily wrapped chocolate only to find that the chocolate inside is some half melted M&M minis, a marshmallow, and the sixth sense that the other brown stuff was not chocolate at all. And a man is standing next to you saying you dont even have permission to even look at 90% the box.

 "WHO CARES ABOUT DRM!" 2009-11-20
By
I bought this game a month after it came out. I read the review talking about some sort of DRM thingy. Well I learned that DRM just keeps you from installing it more than 3 times. Just install spore onto a laptop with vista or install spore on a mac notebook and then bring the laptop to your friends house. But get a mouse because it is easier to move the camera. The goal of the game is to evolve from a cell to into the space stage Let's get to the point. Here are the Pros and Cons

Pros

360 view with just holding the right and left mouse button

great graphics

complete control of your creature

large varity of parts for your creatures

desision to kill or befriend creatures

in the civilization stage you can make your own vehicles

large amount of weapons and other tools to use in space stage

easy controls

awesome superweapons in civilization stage

Cons

no game over

not a lot of different weapons in civilization

have to evolve to land

I would recommend this game for 5-12 years olds. For 12 years old it might be too easy but for 5 year olds a little challenging and frustrating. This game is a best buy. [...]! I hope you will buy this great game

 "ALMOST THE PERFECT GAME" 2009-11-25
By Timothy Branik (Whittier,)
Would have been perfect if it weren't for that damn DRM that only allows you to install it like 5 times or so and it has to be activated online - other than that the story is awesome - the graphics are awesome and the gameplay is super-awesome. This game far exceeds that of any game currently out there and should easily be game of the year. I can't say enough about this game except GO OUT AND BUY IT NOW!! BUT BE SURE TO GET A NEW COPY for reasons mentioned earlier.

"Awesome Game, if it works." 2009-11-24
By Mahlon G. Weaver Jr. (Stuart, Florida)
I wrote this review early in the morning, so dont complain about my spelling.

I know this is a GREAT game, because I played it before on an older PC. But this version does not work with Windows Vista. Actually, I can play the game, but with NO sound. Its a problem with Vista. Some PCs with Vista will work fine and others wont. I did a very easy fix, I downgraded to Windows XP, and BINGO, It works fine. This fix also made other games run better and made my video capture card work properly. I intend to now play through Bioshock and enjoy it. So far NO other issues, runs Great. Windows Vista is supossed to run hardware and software from previous versions of Windows with ease, yeah right. They work, just not well or correctly. If you have XP and enough pc power, get this game, youll love it.

"Don't Buy this Great Game!" 2009-08-28
By Steven Coy (San Diego, CA)
Great Game! But I highly advise you not to buy this version. The security crap (read the other reviews) has utterly disabled me from installing it properly. My only disc drive cannot read the disc... And now if I want to pay, my only option is to buy it again?! Of course there are other methods...

If you want to play this game (especially to prep yourself for the coming sequel!), I suggest you do one of the following:

1. Get it from Steam [...]

2. Get it from "somewhere else" (assuming you know how and what I mean)

Just don't buy this version!

"Buggy Game, but Also One of the Best!" 2009-08-12
By J. Martin (The United States)
This is probably the best game I've played in years. I have to say I think this game has Half-Life beaten by quite a bit. The game is essentially an RPG-shooter type of game, or perhaps action-RPG (but also has guns and other modern weapons as opposed to swords and such). Bioshock comes packed with an intriguing and mysterious story of a quality I don't think I've ever experienced in a video game.

Bioshock is totally compatible with the Xbox 360 controller for Windows PC. The game works flawlessly with this controller. Anyone who wants to play the game with the Xbox 360 controller for PC will appreciate how easy it is to activate the 360 controller controls in the games menu. You can easily switch between using the Xbox 360 controls in the game menu, or using the keyboard and mouse controls if you prefer that.

Gameplay and fun aside, the game is good for other reasons. For one, this is a very thought-provoking game. Walking away from playing it will leave you thinking. In my case, it left me with a certain sensation and overall mood that I don't typically get otherwise without reading a particularly thought-provoking book.

This game has only two downsides that I'm aware of. The first one, as the title implies, is that the game has lots of bugs. I experienced crashes with considerable frequency compared to other games I play. Of course, other people I know say that they never had any such problems with crashing. So different people seem to have different experiences with regard to the crashing, but I had a few crash issues.

The only other downside that I can think of at the moment is the fact that the retail edition of this game contains SecuROM. If SecuROM bothers you (as I personally believe it should), it might be a good idea to buy the Steam version of this game instead since that version does not contain SecuROM. I own the Steam edition, and I love it.

I would strongly recommend this game to people who are looking for good games they can use their Xbox 360 controller for Windows PC to play, people who like RPGs, people who like games with an intriguing and thought-provoking story, and also to people who like first-person shooter games. This is a high quality game that has certainly earned my recommendation, and I am personally looking forward to seeing Bioshock 2.

"This Game Changed My Perspective On Reality." 2009-08-04
By C. Bernal (^33 degrees 55' under)
This game is tied with the Half-Life series as my favorite game of all time. If you love a good story prepare to be overwhelmed, if you love shooting, prepare for war. Follow the light little moth and buy a copy, you will be doing yourself a favor, believe me.
