     "More Warcraft Please?" 2009-10-06
    By S. Thomas (Peoria, Illinois)
Ok, well I bought this warcraft war chest because 24-7 World of Warcraft (minus the 8 painful hours of maintenance on Tuesdays) just isnt enough. I actually played this game years ago, before WOW came onto the scene (and from what I can tell pretty much killed the PC gaming market). It is still great fun, very smart, and if you are a WOW addict gives you some nice back story and a way to get up close and personal with the various WOW bosses. If not, it is a great blizzard RTS (real time strategy -- I think this is the category this game falls into anyway). And if you are waiting for Starcraft 2, this will entertain you during your wait (or during the 8 hours of WOW maintenance on Tuesdays!)

Video game technology may have progressed in the last 6 years, but fun is still fun. This game set the bar back then and continues to entertain today. Plus, you don't have to worry about whether or not your computer can handle it! Just set all the graphics settings to "11" and off you go. The strategy guides are useful and compact, easy to have at hand while playing. Still a great game.

I have an intel imac and this game works great on my imac. I am playing humans and already reached many levels. This game is much better to me since I couldn't play Starcraft on my imac and had to return the product through Amazon. When I have mac os x and Starcraft didn't work, just didn't make sense. Anyhow, this game is great and I am actually following the storylines.

 "Addicted" 2009-10-30
By Sarah B. Wood (Stow, Ohio)
If you love RPG's and have a lot of free time on your hands, this is the game for you. I tried the 10-day trial and then purchased the full copy here on Amazon. It didn't take long for me to become addicted. As my nerd friends and I like to say though, it's not an addicition, it's a commitment. My only advice is as soon as you realize you want the full version, order online and order early. I had to wait a few days for it to arrive in the mail and couldn't play, all because I wanted free shipping. If I had to do it over again, I would've paid for quicker delivery. So find some nerds, start a guild, and never leave your house again! And who knows? You may be so focused on playing that you forget to eat and lose some weight. God knows we all could use a little of that....

"Simply a great product--and therein lies the danger" 2009-10-27
By T. Stewart
All those commercials from Blizzard about how 10+ million people have played WoW are true--and for good reason. WoW is probably one of the funnest games ever made, and certainly one of the best money-makers. There is fun to be had, satisfaction to be felt from the many accomplishments available, and certainly there are friendships to be made. But the big question... at what cost?

If you think that $12-$15 a month is a good price to pay in order to enjoy this game, I'd have to agree with you. The problem is, however, that you'll be giving up a lot more than $15 if you want to enjoy everything this game has to offer. In my own experience--and from the observation of friends--I have seen marriages & families suffer, friendships end, jobs lost, classes failed, social skills forfeited, physical health plummet, and talents go to waste. All of which happens as a direct result of the time people spend on this game. And this happens to some degree or another to everyone who decides to commit to this game.

Are there tens of millions of people who have enjoyed this game? Yes! But what Blizzard doesn't tell you is that many of those same millions now regret the day they ever installed the trial version or paid their first $15 monthly fee. Is this the only game that has caused this sort of problem? No, of course not. And if you think I'm some kind of anti-video-game zealot, you're wrong. I've liked video games of all kinds since I was a kid. There's just something different about this game than others--many games can hook you, but this one above all others has elements that suck you in and keep you hooked much MUCH longer. The danger of addiction is every bit as real as any of the worst substances that any reasonable person would never dream of taking into their body. And the consequences, though maybe not as quick to cause devastation as some drugs (etc...), are so subtle that they are often not detected or acknowledged until it is far too late.

I can't lie... I loved this game for a long time. But that's just the problem. I loved the game more than I loved almost anything else in my life for a time. And what do I have to show for it? More empty yesterdays than I'd ever like to admit.

Many have said and many more will say "I've just put too much time into this game to quit now!" Remember, this game will not last forever! Even if you decide to never quit and keep playing and playing... eventually Blizzard will shut down the servers for good, and you'll be left with nothing to show for all your time and commitment to their game. How much better it would be to quit now! If people who have lots of money invested in stocks that go down and down and that will never go up say "I've put too much into this to get out now!", they will one day have nothing to show for it.

How can you tell if you're addicted? Or at least suffering some of the consequences?

-Have you ever skipped school or work just to play?

-Have you ever ignored (accidentally or purposely) someone important in your life (family, etc...) because you were talking to someone in the game?

-How many times have you stayed up passed 2 am, when all the raids & instances are done, but you just can't log out?

-When you're at school or work, are you planning what you need to do to get X gear or to level X alt, or to train X skill?

-Do you think this is a stupid review? (I'd say this, above all the others, is a really big sign that you're addicted or could be addicted very soon)

Some will say that they're stronger than all this--and that you won't fall into the same trap as many people have. I hope you're right. If not, though, maybe you'll remember what I've said later on down the road, and my hope is that it may help you make the decision you need to make eventually.

Others will say "This is a stupid review! Rate the game, not your willpower!" My response is that I AM rating the game. It's tons of fun (4 stars in my opinion), but the game is specifically designed to suck you in and keep you in. Those particular aspects of the game cause me to give it the one-star rating I have. Harsh? Yea, maybe. But if you had seen what I've seen, you couldn't deny that it's a fair rating.

"Oh no, got it again." 2009-10-18
By Winny (My Magnifying Monocle says i'm HERE)
Experience World of Warcraft ban twice now, and been playing since my father, his excellence, took me to that shanty mall on that November day. It was sold out everywhere, why had Toys R' Us failed a 15 year old on that day? And then that mall, sigh, what a day, the day. The day my life was absorbed into a video game throughout my high school life.

I rate it five stars, so is that bad then that I lost my life? Am I bad to lose my life? No, probably not. Who're you asking, the puritan or laid-back luke? Considering my private school was 20 miles away supporting the extreme stereotypes of Academics and Sports, well, World of Warcraft was the best escape my life could have then. It provided my own freedom and friends when life failed to share any interest in such fantasy. The students playing Magic the Gathering at my school, deemed the under the stairs kids.

So, before I get back to mid-terms and take my eyes off this new World of Warcraft Battle Chest to open at a time for unlimited escape, I want to reflect on what it means as a college student entering post adolescence.

World of Warcraft is just a way for any individual to enter their own community and immerse into it with their imagination. One can become addicted to anything, so must I mention you HAVE to plan at some point when to play, but who wants to marry and then whine within about 'oh the college days... ::sigh::', or 'my life was the greatest, until I got married. I can't do them anymore.' So then, what would you do at that point, let academic papers and peoples pressure push you into something? That peer pressure is what people use at parties to force alcohol down your throat.

There's two extremes, i'm not a spiritualist sharing the method of balance or the western rationalist measuring two items on the measuring tape; BUT, play in awareness.. Set your goals in game, and be aware of who you are at a stage when nothings putting a bind or unbind on you. People that don't play the game at all can say it will send you down a 'pit of fire and people that play too much can lose sight of their goals --- lose the point of what they're doing, then the fun goes in the basket... entering a process or a chain of simplicity in, "I want this, then that, then - oh, it's 2 AM."

In a timeline sense, World of Warcraft is just something new hitting mainstream, rap music was bad in the 90's, and who knows what's next or you can analyze what society has deemed bad in the past as it still mingles in the mainstream.

If you do buy, ENJOY your journey through the Worlds of Warcraft. Make friends, achieve some things, be yourself.. fulfill yourself. =D

There's my nit pick of positive psychology.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Pack

Review World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Pack

Buy Low Price From Here Now

Fans of World of Warcraft, prepare for Blizzard Entertainment's next installment -- World of Warcraft: Wrath of King Lich. In this latest expansion, something is afoot in the cold, harsh northlands. The Lich King Arthas has set in motion events that could lead to the extinction of all life on Azeroth. The necromantic power of the plague and legions of undead armies threaten to sweep across the land. Only the mightiest heroes can oppose the Lich King and end his reign of terror.

Enter the Death Knight
This expansion adds a host of content to the already massive existing game world. Players will achieve soaring levels of power, explore Northrend (the vast icy continent of the Lich King), and battle high-level heroes to determine the ultimate fate of Azeroth. As you face the dangers of the frigid, harsh north, prepare to master the dark necromantic powers of the Death Night -- World of Warcraft's first Hero class. No longer servants of the Lich King, the Death Knights begin their new calling as experienced, formidable adversaries. Each is heavily armed, armored, and in possession of a deadly arsenal of forbidden magic.

If you have a World of Warcraft account with a character of at least level 55, you will be able to create a new level-55 Death Knight of any race (if on a PvP realm, the Death Knight must be the same faction as your existing character). And upon entering the new world, your Death Knight will begin to quest to level 80, gaining potent new abilities and talents along the way. This expansion allows for only one Death Knight per realm, per account.

New Environments in Northrend Await
Journey through the remote, diverse lands of Northrend and explore Dragonblight, Grizzly Hills, Borean Tundra, and Howling Fjord. Named for bones of perished dragons and majestic shrines to the fallen creatures, Dragonblight is an arctic wasteland surrounded by dense forests.

Not everything is frozen in Northrend. The lush mountains of Grizzly Hills are the ancestral home to the furbolgs, who have grown accustomed to relative peace. Although their tranquility is being challenged by trappers, goblins, and ice trolls, Grizzly Hills remains a vast and dangerous wilderness.

The southwestern tip of Northrend is home to the sprawling Borean Tundra. The Horde has established a dominant presence in this icy portion of the continent and has formed a bond with the tuskarr, a walrus-like race of nomadic fisherman. Magical energy is afoot in the region, and it has caused increased tension.

High above the Great Sea at the southeastern tip of Northrend lies the Howling Fjord. Ancient mythology holds that a race of half-giant warriors, the vrykul, once inhabited the land, founding a prosperous civilization. They mysteriously vanished, leaving deserted villages and abandoned temples. In present times, the Alliance and the Horde have come to Howling Fjord to confront the Lich King. Strangely, this has prompted the return of the vrykul, who are attacking the Alliance and Horde settlements. Howling Fjord presents a difficult challenge on two fronts: withstanding the vrykul's onslaught and battling the evil Lich King.

A Multitude of Monsters
Strange and terrifying creatures inhabit the frozen continent of Northrend, such as Nerubian Viziniers, Plague Eruptors, Shoveltusks and Flesh Giants, to name just a few. Half-spider, half-humanoid, the viziniers utilize sorcery and high intelligence to emerge as the rulers of Nerubians' underground kingdom. The Plague Eruptors are walking corpses created by the Lich King's evil experiments to spread horror and chaos across the living world.

Massive curved antlers make it easy to identify the Shoveltusks. These grumpy beasts are very dangerous, territorial, and best left alone. The Flesh Giants are nothing short of nightmarish abominations. Cobbled together from the pieces of giant body parts, the Flesh Giants employ tremendous strength to carry out the Lich King's wishes.

The World of Warcraft: Wrath of King Lich expansion pack allows you to engage in epic siege warfare. The pack presents the first Hero class and allows you to transform your Death Knight's look with character customization that even include hairstyles and dances. You'll enjoy exploring the Northrend and all its environments and dungeons, filled with some of the deadliest creatures -- and greatest treasures -- on all of Azeroth.

I've been playing WOW for some time, but enough is enough! This game requires you to pay 14.95 a month to play, which I have no problems with. Problem is Blizzard can't run servers properly, and the game is constantly unvailible with servers down, power outages.... etc etc, the list goes on and on. If your only a casual player who doesn't care if the server is unavaible for day's, this really is a great game. Otherwise if your a hardcore player, that needs the best gear etc etc, these outages can enrage you and are not worth it. I havent been able to play for 3 days now, server Shah'alo has been down.... I quit. Thank god for COD - Mordern warfare. It's not worth the money not to be able to play!

"Think hard before you buy" 2009-10-27
By M. Fairchild (Tennessee)
The World of Warcraft phenomenon certainly beckons enticingly to computer gamers. The huge world, many plot lines, multiple options for creating your own character and interacting with others - all wonderful, right? Well, yes, if it only worked.

Here's what happened to me. I started with a trial account, found it fun, signed up for a regular subscription, and had a pretty good time for about a month. And then came the first "patch." For the uninitiated, a "patch" in World of Warcraft isn't just a bug fix - it's a game overhaul, involving changes in the rules, in the quests and dungeons ("instances" in WoW terms) available, and, most problematic, in how the software works. Immediately I started having game problems, such as unpredictable shutdowns and computer freezes that required a hard reset. Tracking down the cause proved impossible. If you send a request for technical help you'll get a cookie-cutter list of things to do like uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Other players try to help on the online forums, but as the weeks went on I had more and more trouble, until, after the most recent patch, the game became impossible to play because of graphics and crash problems - on my 8-month-old, hardly bottom line laptop. I quit playing and allowed my subscription to lapse.

So, before you buy into the WoW system, where you'll pay up front for the program and continue to pay every month for a subscription you may or may not be able to access, think hard. The game will change at the whim of Blizzard. Other players' conduct can make a particular session unbearable. You may spend weeks developing a character only to find that the latest patch has drastically changed the rules that made that character attractive to you. And despite Blizzard's promise to keep the game playable without the very most recent hardware, patches that only disable a few tens of thousands of players aren't going to be modified by a company that boasts a subscriber base in the millions.

One last warning: the whole game will change quite drastically once the next expansion is issued, probably within the next few months. Even if you're not worried about hardware compatibility problems, since so much will change with the new expansion, you may want to wait and let that be released and allow time for the inevitable avalanche of bugs to be sorted out before you commit the time and money to play this game. The official World of Warcraft site has some preview information about the expansion you should take a look at.

It can be a lot of fun. If you can keep it running enough to play it. If you're willing to put up with constant changes. If you can tolerate the multi-player premise of the game, which can be a lot of fun or a lot of misery, depending on who the other players are. In the end, the answer to all those "ifs" for me was, "no."

So before you buy into this game, at least spend some time browsing the public forums on the official World of Warcraft website, especially the customer service and technical support forums, so you can get some idea of the problems other players have and that you, too, might face. And then think about the money and time involved, do searches on the specific hardware you own, especially the video card you have, to see what problems (or maybe lack of problems) others have had, and then think about it some more. It's painful to look back and see I've spent nearly $100 in software purchases and over $100 in subscription fees and am left with a game I can't play any more, because of the way Blizzard has chosen to change the software.

The WoW Pre-Paid Time Card basically has a scratch-off code on the back that you enter onto WoW's website (account management after logging in) and right away you get 60 days of play time. It's a great way to ration your play time - every 2 months, make a conscious decision to buy another one and make a mental note that it's been another 2 months. Also, it makes a great gift for friends who play WoW. They simply punch in the code and get 2 months of paid time to play. Amazon delivers this product quickly and the code works instantly.

- other websites I have been able to find this cheaper (not OLD, and where do chickens come from)

- I stopped playing WoW, got bored, moved on to other games
