First, to clear up any confusion, as another person said, this works on Vista too. Don't be tricked into buying the $50 standard version (The standard costs more than the game of the year. Doesn't make much sense but I'm not complaining. Pay less, get better. I like that thought.)Let's start the reivew.
Single Player (Campaign):
There were many things that truly drew me in in the single player, but I have to say the main thing was the graphics. They are spectacular. They can compete with Xbox 360 if you ask me. They are the best I've ever seen on the PC. Second was the story. The modern warfares are the only CoDs that have true stories. I'm certainly not going to give away any of the story, but the main idea is to kill 4 ultranationalists/terrorists that are in a picture the army has. Okay, I'll tell you one detail. The story greatly changes when you found out one of the men in the picture(Imran Zakheav) whom was thought to have been killed 15 years ago, is still alive. I won't tell you any more. Then there were the characters. They were very well developed. My favorite character was Gaz. Too bad he got his head blown off at the end.
Multiplayer:
Wow. I can't get into everything. There's just too much. The perks, customizable classes, weapon attachments, killstreak rewards, ranks, challenges, and difficuly are all perfect. The multiplayer in CoD 4 is better than Halo's. And I bet as you read that some of you may gasp that I would dare say such a thing. But it's true. Buy the game.

I bought this game instead of COD Modern Warfare 2 so that I could get a "feel" for this game before moving on to the lastest and greatest. I was glad I did. I am playing 1280x960 on a Core2 E6600 (8800GT video card). All I can say is WOW. With a quality set of speakers the realism is fantastic. Get this game and start in if you are new to COD. You won't regret it. Oh, almost forgot. This game loads, configures and runs perfectly on Windows 7 64 bit. Enjoy!

Although I have not had a chance to enjoy the multiplayer side to this game, it is the best game I have played- ever. That is, until Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 comes out. I highly recommend buying this game and playing through to the end Before purchasing the sequel game (mentioned above). Graphics are great, the mechanics are sound, interface is the best of the Call of Duty games so far, the sheer variety of actual weapons is amazing, and the plot is well thought out, and perfectly executed.
For those not familiar with other fps (first person shooters) this is one of the best out there. You carry a main gun, a sidearm, grenades, and a knife. You can swap out your main gun if you find something better, and you can also swap out your pistol if you come across a gun you like better- like a P-90, or the classic AK-47. The knife is used for melee attacks, which are as underdeveloped as any game like this. Just hit the other person before he hits you, and you're good. Throwing a grenade isn't as easy as it sounds- they bounce. And ene,my personnel, just like you, can pick up a grenade and throw it back if they get to it in time. Their are smoke grenades, flashbang grenades, and frag grenades (the best kind). The rest of the gameplay (i.e. shooting) is very cool. While sniping you need to keep track of range and wind conditions- and believe me, on all but the easiest setting this actually matters! Also, it can take several bullets depending on the gun being used to kill someone. A P-90 takes a few bullets more than your standard assault rifle.
You play as either one of two characters depending on the mission at hand: British S.A.S. Commando Sergeant 'Soap' MacTavish, or United States Marine Sergeant Paul Jackson. Soap's commanding officer, Captain Price, is playable in a flashback mission- where you get to be a sniper. Fun! Other single mission playables are as an S.A.S. shooter operating an AC-130 Gunship; another S.A.S. officer, this time infiltrating an enemy plane and rescuing someone aboard before leaping out (very James Bond) during the bonus epilogue mission.
I won't say any more regarding the plot and characters, simply because I don't want to ruin anything for anybody. I know some people like to play video games like they watch movies- with zero spoilers involved.
The best part of this game is supposed to be the multiplayer missions- which I have regrettably not had the chance to partake in. I have seen it played on the xbox, but not the PC or Mac. While I do own a Mac computer- be assured this review is for the PC version of the game.
I hope you all enjoy this game as much as I have. Please buy it and try for yourselves. It's very fun.

If you want to play a good, absorbing, challenging FPS (or FPS-related) game, choose a Grand Theft Auto game. The best of these is San AndreasGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Second Edition, but IV, Vice City, and III are nearly as good. Call of Duty 4 is not a good game.
The best points about the game are the graphics (good) and the sound (pretty good); however, the only so-so--I quit about 2/3 of the way through--Half-Life 2Half Life 2 has better graphics and sound. Another good point is that the game is short. (Mind you, you'll feel ripped off if you don't buy the game used for US$1.75, as I did.)
The bad points are that the game is (a) completely uninvolving, (b) has "characters" that develop in no ways, (c) chutes the player directly to where he/she is supposed to be, (d) consists entirely of levels in which you have to shoot a lot of people, (e) has an annoying automatic save and restart system with save points so close in time that there is no challenge, and (f) has no story whatsoever.
In "Call of Duty 4," you point and shoot some, then you're finished. Boring.

Excellent game. Interesting story line, good action and well behaved. Not an easy game to complete on the harder levels, but fun to play at the easier levels. So, you can make it challenging or play it for fun. Interface and controls work well. Selection of weapons is good. Overall, worth buying and playing.
